My Fave 2020 Albums

Hey loves!

Hope you’ve all been well!

Ok so I like to think I have a pretty fire music taste (something that I’m sure literally everyone says about their own music tastes hahaha). And although this year was crazy, tumultuous, difficult… literally every negative adjective one could think of, it was actually pretty good in terms of music! My highest voted option on my Twitter poll about my next post was to do a rating of my favorite albums of 2020 – something that I’ve actually been hella excited so do. So let’s waste no more time, let’s get right into it!

After Hours (Deluxe) – The Weeknd

Alright so one thing about me, im a HUGE the Weeknd stan (XO since 2011 baby!) So naturally, when this album dropped I already knew I would be enamored with it no matter what. But what I didn’t expect, was for my mans to drop a whole MASTERPIECE. Forreal you guys; every. single. track. is angelic. I’ve listened to it every day since it dropped. And yes – it needs to be the Deluxe version.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
Thats What They All Say – Jack Harlow

I honestly feel like this album is NOT talked about enough!!! Track after track is truly hit after hit. For hip hop fans like me – the ones that respect trap beats but also prefer for lyrics to actually make sense – this album truly delivered. Jack Harlow has bars AND a sound thats still exciting and modern. “Face of My City” with Lil Baby is perfect proof. If you haven’t listened, go do that and thank me later!

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
Legends Never Die – Juice Wrld

Juice’s death will always be one that really breaks my heart. His music has gotten me through so much in life and to call him anything short of a legend is truly just inaccurate. My favorite albums are usually the ones that are consistent all the way through, that flow in a way thats almost poetic and storylike. As a posthumous album, this did just that (something that I believe the Pop Smoke posthumous album didn’t do, might I add). This album just felt like a note left to fans; and thats what makes it so special. Oh, btw – “Juice Wrld Speaks from Heaven” still makes me cry every time. RIP Juice.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
Man on the Moon III: The Chosen – Kid Cudi

You guys know all those Twitter jokes where people say “Kid Cudi’s humming changed their life”? Yeah, but like forreal. This album is another one where the sound and theme is just so consistent. Listening to it makes me feel so zen and peaceful. That almost out-of-this-world sound, in my point of view, is reminiscent of how I felt listening to Astroworld (that Travis Scott album is another MASTERPIECE, imo!!). I love albums that make me feel like I’m like, in outerspace. That might sound weird haha but whatever, this albums fire!

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
King’s Disease – Nas

Ok you guys, this is another album that is just completely slept on imo. If you know me, you know that one of my top favorite rappers of all time is Nas. To piggyback what I said before about Jack Harlow, this album is a good example of hip hop that is conscious in lyrics; which is why I love it. But as an older rapper, I respect how Nas still has a sound with elements that are true to an older style. But yet, he finds a way to make that sound refreshing for 2020. I recommend!

Rating: 4 out of 5.
Plastic Hearts – Miley Cyrus

As soon as I heard Miley’s rendition of Zombie by the Cranberries, my immediate first thought was “this girl would absolutely slay a rock album”. And to my pleasant surprise, Miley DID THAT. As a vocalist, Miley is just absolutely unreal and so many of the songs on this album are just so catchy! And the fact that she was allowed to mash up Midnight Sky with Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks is just iconic. This album really is one of my favorites!

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Making this list does not mean that theres no other albums from this year that I didn’t love. These are honestly just the ones that stand out to me, the ones I play repeatedly straight through with no skips – but theres still lots of other albums this year that were memorable and brilliantly executed! So next, I’ll list some albums that are worth the honorable mention (just not personally my top).

  • Positions – Ariana Grande
  • Twice As Tall – Burna Boy
  • It Was Good Until it Wasn’t – Kehlani
  • H*, Why is You Here? – Flo Milli
  • Good Intentions – Nav
  • Just Cus Y’all Waited 2 – Lil Durk
  • Ungodly Hour – Chloe x Halle
  • Sensation – Sen
  • King – Israel Wusu

Thanks for reading! Let me know down below in the comments what YOUR favorite albums of 2020 are! Also let me know which albums did I completely sleep on? I love hearing about new artists!
